“Certified American Grown” as a term and an official seal means that the flower or foliage was grown locally in the United States.
While your favorite flower shop or florist may be located minutes from your home, chances are that many of the flowers were imported internationally. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing since plenty of gorgeous flowers varieties are imported from South American and Holland. However supporting local farms and distributors has a greater impact on your own community’s economy and ecological footprint.
Plus, local and American grown flowers are fresher and last longer due to the shorter transportation time. This means even more beautiful and colorful arrangements and even sweeter scents!
How to Support Local Flower Farms
You can support American grown flowers by searching for local farms through an online directory, or by shopping at local distributors.
Buying directly from farms is great, but local shops may offer additional convenience and double the impact. Asking your favorite flower shops about their suppliers and locally grown flower varieties will help support not only local farms but also small businesses.
